New Venture Creation Course
A trusted new venture creation course at NQF Level 4 — the National Certificate in New Venture Creation is a 138-credit qualification for entrepreneurs, small business owners and anyone building something of their own. Twelve months of blended, work-integrated learning, delivered nationwide through Phambili Village Campus.
The new venture creation course built for people building something real.
Starting a business is one thing. Building one that survives, grows and makes a real contribution to your life and community is another. The National Certificate in New Venture Creation is designed for the second — it’s a full NQF 4 qualification that takes aspiring and existing entrepreneurs through the practical reality of starting, running and growing a small business in South Africa.
Over twelve months, the new venture creation course covers the actual work of entrepreneurship: spotting viable business opportunities, validating ideas, planning and financing a venture, marketing and selling, managing money, handling the legal and tax basics, and building the operational habits that turn a side hustle into a sustainable business. It is broad by design, because entrepreneurs have to wear every hat at once.
What makes Phambili’s delivery different is that learners apply every module to their own business idea or existing venture. We don’t teach entrepreneurship from textbooks — we teach it through hands-on assignments where the output is your own business plan, your own financials, your own marketing strategy. That’s what our blended learning model is built for, and it’s delivered nationwide so entrepreneurs across South Africa can access the programme regardless of location.
The qualification is registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) at Level 4 — the same level as matric — making it an excellent route for school leavers starting their first business, workers transitioning to self-employment, and existing small business owners who want the formal qualification to match their hard-won experience. It is also an ideal employer-funded programme for enterprise and supplier development (ESD) spend under B-BBEE.
Inside the new venture creation course curriculum.
The curriculum covers every hat an entrepreneur has to wear — from opportunity recognition and planning, to money, marketing, operations and the legal essentials that keep a business on the right side of the line.
Opportunity Recognition & Validation
Spotting real business opportunities in your own community and market, validating demand before you spend money, and separating good ideas from expensive mistakes.
Business Planning & Strategy
Writing a business plan that actually helps you run your business — not just one to impress a funder. Setting direction, understanding your market, and planning for real conditions.
Financial Management for Entrepreneurs
Budgeting, cash flow management, pricing your products or services, understanding margin, and keeping basic books. The numerical literacy every business owner needs to survive.
Marketing & Sales
Understanding customers, positioning your offer, practical marketing on small budgets, sales techniques, and building the customer relationships that drive repeat business.
Operations & Delivery
Running the day-to-day — managing stock, scheduling, quality control, supplier relationships, and the operational systems that keep small businesses from drowning in their own success.
Legal, Tax & Compliance Essentials
Business registration, tax basics, understanding contracts, labour law fundamentals for small employers, and the compliance essentials every South African entrepreneur has to handle.
Funding & Financial Support
Understanding funding options, preparing for investor or lender conversations, SEFA and SETA support, grants, and navigating the South African small business support landscape.
Personal Mastery & Resilience
The mindset side of entrepreneurship — managing uncertainty, handling setbacks, time management, decision-making under pressure, and building the personal habits that distinguish lasting businesses from short-lived ones.
Aspiring entrepreneurs and existing small business owners.
This new venture creation course is built for people who want to build something of their own. If you have a business idea and need the structured support to turn it into a real venture, if you are already running a side hustle and want to grow it into a proper business, or if you are an existing small business owner who wants the formal qualification to match your experience — this programme is for you.
It is also an ideal fit for corporate enterprise and supplier development programmes. Because delivery is nationwide, large organisations funding small business development through this new venture creation course can support entrepreneurs across multiple regions while scoring both ESD and skills development points under B-BBEE — one of the few programmes that hits both scorecard elements at once.
